Gabbard’s Attacks on Obama Put the Attorney General

Tulsi Gabbard, in her current role as Director of National Intelligence (DNI), has launched significant attacks on former President Barack Obama and members of his administration. These accusations center around the 2016 election and the subsequent investigations into Russian interference.

Here’s a breakdown of the situation and its impact on the Attorney General:

Gabbard’s Allegations:

“Treasonous Conspiracy” and “Coup Attempt”: Gabbard claims to have declassified documents that provide “overwhelming evidence” of a “treasonous conspiracy” by Obama and his national security team. She alleges they “manufactured and politicized intelligence” to lay the groundwork for what she describes as a “years-long coup attempt” against then-President-elect Donald Trump.

Manipulation of Russia Intelligence: A key part of Gabbard’s argument is that the Obama administration deliberately manipulated intelligence assessments regarding Russia’s involvement in the 2016 election. She asserts that earlier intelligence indicated Russia was “probably not trying…to influence the election by using cyber means,” but that after Trump won, Obama directed a new Intelligence Community (IC) assessment that “completely contradicted” those previous findings. This later assessment (released January 6, 2017) concluded that Russia aimed to boost Trump and denigrate Hillary Clinton.

Use of Unreliable Sources: Gabbard contends that this new assessment relied on sources known to be unreliable or “manufactured,” specifically mentioning the now-discredited Steele Dossier.

Consequences: She argues this “manufactured intelligence” led to the Mueller investigation, Trump’s two impeachments, arrests of high-level officials, and heightened tensions with Russia.

Targeted Officials: Gabbard’s statements explicitly name former DNI James Clapper, CIA Director John Brennan, National Security Adviser Susan Rice, Secretary of State John Kerry, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe as being involved.

Impact on the Attorney General:

Criminal Referral to DOJ: Gabbard has announced that she is turning over “all documents” related to her claims to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for “criminal referral.” She has urged that “no matter how powerful, every person involved in this conspiracy must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

DOJ Strike Force: In response to Gabbard’s disclosures, Attorney General Pamela Bondi announced the formation of a “Strike Force” within the Department of Justice. Bondi stated that the DOJ is “proud to work with my friend Director Gabbard” and will “investigate these troubling disclosures fully and leave no stone unturned to deliver justice.” This indicates the Attorney General is taking Gabbard’s claims seriously and initiating a formal assessment of the evidence.
