Maserati unveils the MCPURA

It seems there might be a slight confusion in the name. Maserati has indeed unveiled a highly anticipated track-only supercar that was initially known by the codename “Project24”. However, its official production name was later revealed as the Maserati MCXtrema.

The Maserati MCXtrema (formerly Project24) was officially unveiled at Monterey Car Week on August 18, 2023.

Here’s what you need to know about the Maserati MCXtrema:

Track-Only Beast: It’s designed exclusively for track use and is not street-legal.

Limited Production: Only 62 units are being produced worldwide, and they were all reportedly sold out even before the official unveiling.

MC20 Basis: It’s based on the Maserati MC20 supercar but significantly enhanced for extreme track performance.

Powerful Engine: It features an upgraded version of the MC20’s “Nettuno” 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, now producing 730 horsepower (some initial reports quoted 740 hp).

Aggressive Aerodynamics: The design, by Centro Stile Maserati, is radically different from the MC20, with extreme aerodynamics including a massive rear wing, large diffusers, and plenty of vents and scoops for downforce and cooling.

Lightweight Construction: Extensive use of carbon fiber and other natural fibers helps keep its dry weight below 1,250 kg (2,756 lbs).

Racing Components: It boasts a 6-speed sequential racing gearbox, racing brakes (carbon-ceramic), racing-specific tires, and FIA-approved safety features like a roll cage and fire extinguisher.

In essence, the “MCPURA” you mentioned might be a slight misremembering of either the MCXtrema or “Project24”. The Maserati MCXtrema is the ultimate expression of Maserati’s racing DNA for dedicated track enthusiasts.
