Iran’s car parts manufacturers

Iran has a significant car parts manufacturing industry that plays a vital role in supporting the country’s domestic automotive sector, one of the largest in the Middle East. Iranian car parts manufacturers produce a wide variety of components, including engines, gearboxes, electrical systems, suspension parts, brake systems, and body components. These parts are primarily used by local carmakers such as Iran Khodro and SAIPA, which dominate the Iranian automotive market.

Despite facing challenges such as international sanctions and limited access to global technologies, Iran’s car parts industry has managed to remain resilient by developing local expertise and forming joint ventures with regional and Asian suppliers. Many companies operate under the umbrella of larger industrial groups and are vertically integrated to manage costs and ensure a steady supply chain. Notable parts manufacturers include Tabriz Industrial Group, Mega Motor, Sapco (a subsidiary of Iran Khodro), and Sazehgostar SAIPA. These firms are engaged in manufacturing critical components like fuel systems, electronic control units (ECUs), air conditioning systems, and safety equipment.

The Iranian government has supported the development of the car parts industry through subsidies, technology transfer initiatives, and encouraging domestic content in vehicle manufacturing. Local content requirements have compelled car manufacturers to source most of their parts domestically, which in turn has fostered growth in this sector. Additionally, with efforts to diversify exports beyond oil, Iran has begun to market auto parts to neighboring countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria.

Recent years have also seen a push toward localization of high-tech components, including hybrid and electric vehicle parts. However, the industry still faces hurdles in adopting advanced technologies due to limited access to foreign investments and modern machinery. Nonetheless, Iran’s car parts manufacturers continue to expand their capabilities and play a key role in maintaining the country’s automotive self-sufficiency and employment generation in the industrial sector.
