Egypt’s garment industrys

Egypt’s garment industry has experienced significant growth in recent years, solidifying its position as a key player in the global textile market. In 2024, the sector’s exports increased by 18%, reaching $2.84 billion, up from $2.41 billion in 2023 .

Export Destinations and Growth

The United States remains the largest importer of Egyptian garments, with exports rising by 17% to $1.19 billion in 2024 . The European Union also saw a substantial increase, with exports jumping by 34% to $689 million . Notably, exports to African countries (excluding Arab nations) surged by 140%, reaching $8.7 million, while exports to Arab countries grew by 4% .

Investment and Industry Development

The growth in exports is attributed to increased foreign investments from countries like China, Vietnam, Turkey, and India, alongside local investments and factory expansions . The Egyptian government has also allocated approximately $1.2 billion to boost the textile industry, aiming to create employment opportunities and enhance local production capabilities .

Strategic Initiatives and Future Outlook

Egypt plans to establish a new integrated city for textile industries and 10 new textile industrial zones, accommodating around 1,250 textile factories and creating job opportunities for approximately 1.5 million people . The Ready-Made Garment Export Council aims for an annual growth rate of at least 20%, targeting $3.3 billion in exports by the end of 2025 .

With its strategic initiatives, investment influx, and expanding global market reach, Egypt’s garment industry is poised for continued growth and increased competitiveness on the international stage.
