One of the most significant developments in this industry is the establishment of the Salambigar Industrial Park and the Serambangun Industrial Site, which provide infrastructure and incentives to food manufacturing companies. These industrial parks offer ready-made facilities, subsidies, and logistical support for local and foreign investors.

Major players in Brunei’s food manufacturing include both local SMEs and joint ventures with foreign firms. Some well-known local brands include Hana Soy Sauce, Brunei Halal Foods, and Golden Corporation. Brunei Halal Foods is especially notable for its international branding and export of halal-certified products to markets in the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia. The country’s strict adherence to halal standards has positioned it well in the global halal food market.

Golden Corporation, located in Muara, is another leading example. It is involved in seafood processing, particularly for export, and uses locally sourced raw materials, contributing to both food production and sustainable fisheries. The company exports high-quality seafood products to Japan, Korea, and other parts of Asia.

The food processing industry in Brunei spans a range of products, including snacks, frozen seafood, sauces, condiments, baked goods, and beverages. Most of these products cater to the domestic market, but the government is pushing for increased export activity, particularly within the halal segment.

Government initiatives such as DARe (Darussalam Enterprise) provide vital support to entrepreneurs in the food industry. Through DARe, businesses receive training, financial assistance, and access to industrial spaces. Programs like the AgroBiz project further support youth and startup businesses in agriculture and food processing.

However, challenges remain. Limited domestic market size, dependence on imported raw materials, and high production costs are key constraints. To overcome these, Brunei is focusing on improving local agriculture, strengthening logistics and distribution networks, and enhancing food innovation through R&D.
