Israeli strikes on Gaza kill more than 90 people in 48 hours

Reports indicate a significant escalation of Israeli strikes in Gaza over the past 48 hours, resulting in a high number of Palestinian casualties.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry on Saturday, April 19, 2025, more than 90 people have been killed in these Israeli strikes. This figure includes at least 15 people who were killed overnight, among them women and children, some of whom were sheltering in designated humanitarian zones.

Here are some key points from the reports:

Intensified Attacks: Israeli forces have seemingly intensified their attacks across Gaza. This is stated to be part of an effort to pressure Hamas to release the remaining hostages and to disarm.

Casualties in Humanitarian Zones: Tragically, some of those killed were sheltering in areas designated as humanitarian zones by Israel, such as in the Muwasi area of Khan Younis.

Strikes on Various Locations: Strikes have been reported in different parts of Gaza, including Khan Younis, Rafah, and the Jabaliya refugee camp. A hospital in Gaza City, Al-Ahli Hospital, was also hit, causing damage and affecting patients.

Israeli Military Claims: The Israeli military stated that it had struck over 90 militant targets in the past 48 hours, including command and control centers, tunnels, and weapons. They also reported intercepting a projectile fired from Gaza. In one specific instance, they claimed to have killed the deputy head of a Hamas sniper cell.

Palestinian Accounts: Palestinians have described the devastating impact of the strikes, with families mourning the loss of loved ones, including multiple members of the same family.

Blockade of Gaza: Reports also indicate that Israel has maintained a blockade on Gaza for the past six weeks, preventing the entry of food and other essential goods, leading to dire humanitarian conditions.

Negotiation Stalled: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Hamas had rejected a recent proposal that could have led to the release of some of the hostages. He reiterated that Israel would not end the war until Hamas is destroyed, all hostages are returned, and Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel.
The situation remains highly volatile and the impact on the civilian population in Gaza is severe. International organizations continue to call for a ceasefire and increased humanitarian access to theStrip.
